This copycat Coffee Bean Iced Passion Tea Latte starts with brewed passion tea, and is combined with pure vanilla powder, granulated sugar, and splash of heavy cream.
Do you like tea? I generally don’t, as I much prefer coffee over tea. Upon visiting my sister earlier in May, she took me to Coffee Bean and had me try her favorite iced passion tea latte. Now I figured it would be good, being sweetened and creamy and all that jazz. But it was GO-OOOD. After arriving back home, I decided to create a copycat version since we don’t have a Coffee Bean anywhere near southern Oregon and I was jonesing for an iced tea STAT. This fun copycat takes very little time to create (and even less time if you use the actual iced tea that you can make with cold water!). Let’s brew a batch.
What you’ll need to make this iced passion tea latte:
Passion Tea (I chose the Tazo brand, and they also have a handy dandy iced variety too!)
Water
Ice
Vanilla Powder (I used this Cooks one)
Granulated Sugar
Half and Half (or Milk of choice)
Brewing the Tea
So what is passion tea? Passion tea is blend of proprietary herbs such as hibiscus flowers, tropical flavors, orange peel, cinnamon, rosehips, lemongrass, and most notably fruit juice extract that is used for the deep red color. Does passion tea have caffeine? While there is a mild amount of caffeine that can occur naturally in this tea, I opted to purchase the caffeine free variety.
Tazo makes an iced passion tea, which would be quite convenient in this recipe. I only spotted the regular passion tea when I was online shopping, so I brewed my tea the night before and let it refrigerate overnight so it was perfectly chilled the next day.
Begin by boiling your water on the stovetop on high in a medium sized pan. Be cautious as the water could bubble up. Upon boiling, remove the pan carefully from the heat, and add your four teabags to it. Cover the pan with it’s lid, and allow the teabags to steep in the hot water for five minutes. Once the time has elapsed, squeeze the teabags gently to remove the remains tea and water, and then discard them. Gently pour the tea into a pitcher. Add your vanilla powder and granulated sugar, mixing well until no remnants remain (about thirty seconds). Refrigerate for two hours or overnight.
Making the Latte
Once the tea is chilled, remove it from the refrigerator. Fill four glasses with ice, and divide the tea evenly among the glasses. Add a splash of heavy cream or your favorite dairy or plant based milk to each glass of iced tea. Stir and enjoy!
Store any leftovers in the refrigerator for up to three days. Best stored without milk or ice.
The Dietary Substitutions
I love providing gluten and dairy free substitutions so that those with alternate dietary needs can enjoy my recipes to their fullest! These are subs that I have either used and continue to stock in my own home, or that have come highly recommended from others. I want your baking experience to be the best it can be, and avoiding gluten or dairy shouldn’t hinder that process in the slightest.
Silk Plant Based Half and Half Alternative is a great alternative to dairy based cream in this tea. Use any plant based milk in leu of the half and half as well, just ensure that it is unsweetened as the tea already sweetened.
