Creamy butter, brown sugar, pure vanilla, and plenty of chocolate, these M&M Chocolate Chip Cookies are the perfect candy filled treats.
There's something undeniably comforting about the aroma of freshly baked cookies wafting through the kitchen. Today, I want to share with you one of my all-time favorite cookie recipes: M&M chocolate chip cookies. These cookies are the perfect combination of chewy and crunchy, with bursts of chocolatey goodness from both the semi-sweet chocolate chips and vibrant M&M candies.
Ingredients:
- 1 Cup Salted Butter, softened
- ¾ Cup Dark Brown Sugar, packed
- ½ Cup Granulated Sugar
- 2 Large Eggs + 1 large egg yolk
- 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 1 Tablespoon Pure Vanilla Extract
- 2 ¾ Cups All-Purpose Flour
- 2 Cups Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips
- 2 Cups M&M Candies
To start, gather your ingredients. The magic begins by creaming together the softened butter and sugars until they're light and fluffy. Then, mix in the eggs + egg yolk and vanilla. Next, mix in by the dry ingredients: the baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
The dough should be soft and supple. Now comes the fun part – folding in those luscious chocolate chips and M&M candies. The dough becomes a canvas of colors {these were made for Love Day but you can use any color you want}.
Using a trusty 3-tbsp cookie scoop, portion out the dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a silicone mat. A quick chill in the refrigerator helps the dough maintain its shape while the oven preheats to a toasty 375°F.
Once the oven is ready, it's time to bake these beauties. In just 12-14 minutes, your kitchen will be filled with the irresistible scent of freshly baked cookies. Keep an eye on them – you want the edges to turn a glorious golden brown while the centers remain soft and chewy.
As the cookies cool on the baking sheet, resisting the urge to dive in immediately may prove to be the ultimate test of patience. But trust me, it's worth the wait. Once they've cooled slightly, transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely, if you can resist sneaking one or two along the way.
With a glass of cold milk or a steaming cup of coffee in hand, take a moment to savor the simple pleasures in life – like biting into a homemade M&M chocolate chip cookie. Each bite is a nostalgic journey back to childhood, filled with joy, laughter, and of course, delicious cookies.
Dietary Substitutions
I love providing gluten and dairy free substitutions so that those with alternate dietary needs can enjoy my recipes to their fullest! These are subs that I have either used and continue to stock in my own home, or that have come highly recommended from others. I want your baking experience to be the best it can be, and avoiding gluten or dairy shouldn’t hinder that process in the slightest.
As always, here is a list of tried and true dietary substitutes, so that you can enjoy this recipe without the additions of gluten or dairy.
Bob’s Red Mill 1:1 Gluten Free Baking Flour is a wonderful all-purpose sub, and it’s cup for cup, so use the same measurements as you would all-purpose flour.
Miyokos butter is a plant based brick that closely resembles dairy butter not only in its look, but it’s taste as well. It melts, browns, and spreads just like real butter, and truly is a fantastic substitute in this recipe. Use it as a 1:1 ratio sub, same as the flour, so the recipe measurements will not change.
43% Oat Milk Chocolate + Coconut Sugar by Scharffenberger are dairy free + allergen friendly chcolate chunks and would work great in the brownies and the ganache.
Choc Yums by Yum Earth are dairy free and allergy friendly candy coated chocolates.
Treat yourself and your loved ones to a batch of these delightful M&M chocolate chip cookies today. Whether it's a cozy night in or a special occasion worth celebrating, these cookies are sure to bring smiles and sweet memories to everyone fortunate enough to indulge in them. Happy baking!
XO,
Heather

- 1 Tablespoon Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1 Teaspoon Baking Soda
- 1 Teaspoon Baking Powder
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 2 ¾ Cups All Purpose Flour
- 2 Cups Chocolate Chips of Choice
- 2 Cups Milk Chocolate M&M’s
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, dark brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add in the eggs + egg yolk, and vanilla, mixing well. Mix in the baking soda, baking powder, salt until well combined.
- Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms. Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and M&M candies until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
