    Double Chocolate Peppermint Bark

Nothing says the holidays like some good ol’ candy cane peppermint… well, anything. In this case, I had to get some Chocolate Peppermint Bark going. It’s a great little treat for the kids and a fantastic staple gift for family and friends.

    Double Chocolate Peppermint Bark

I just love chocolate and peppermint. The combination is rich yet refreshing, and boasts the true flavors of the holiday season. Now traditional peppermint bark is made with white chocolate (spoiler: not really chocolate…), and you can absolutely substitute that in if you love the white version! But in an effort to keep this as dark, rich, creamy, and pepperminty as possible, I opted to create a double chocolate peppermint bark.

    Holiday Peppermint Bark

This bark was made with a delightful pure peppermint extract paste gifted to me by Taylor and College. They have an exquisite line of pastes that are wonderful for baking up all sorts of goodies, and I’ve used many of their products and loved each one. If you don’t have access to a paste, though, you can absolutely substitute an extract in at a 1:1 ratio.

    Make Your own Peppermint Bark

Here’s what you’ll need for Chocolate Peppermint Bark recipe:

    Dark Chocoate Chips

    Milk Chocolate Chips

    Peppermint Paste or Extract

    Crushed Candy Canes

Now as I said, you can get creative here. Try semi-sweet chips + white chocolate, or dark chocolate alllll the way. You can crush up chocolate candy canes, or even use another flavor of crushed candy! I love bark because the possibilities are pretty endless, and you can create an original masterpiece simply by putting your own twist on it. And it’s THE perfect addition to goodie boxes / goodie bags this Christmas. No one will know how easy it was, and you’ll wind up looking like a total gifting pro. WIN-WIN.

Lastly, you can absolutely make this recipe dairy-free / vegan / allergen friendly by using the right chips. Nestle and Enjoy Life both make allergy friendly chocolate chips.

    • 1 teaspoon pure peppermint paste or extract
    • 2-3 crushed mini candy canes (or 1 large one)

    Instructions

    • Place dark chips in a microwave safe bowl, and the milk chips in another microwave safe bowl.
    • Microwave each on high for 45-60 seconds, stirring hallway though. Ensure that the chips are completely melted and smooth.
    • Add paste or extract to dark chocolate chips and mix well. (You can also add half of the extract / paste to each bowl of chips once melted and smooth).
    • Spread the dark chips onto a prepared cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze for 10 minutes. Once semi set, spread the milk chips gently over the dark, swirling them together a bit if you’d like too.
    • Sprinkle with crushed candy canes, and gently press down to ensure they stay in the chocolate. Freeze for another 20 minutes or until set. Bread into pieces by hand or carefully with a knife. Store in the fridge until boxing up to gift! Enjoy!
